WESTON -- The Lewis County Senior Center in conjunction with the Lewis County Sheriff's Department offer tracking bracelets which help locate a person if they wander away.
Four people already use the bracelets.
The project offers tracking bracelets to people with cognitive disabilities such as Alzheimer's and Down Syndrome.
The bracelets help the authorities locate a missing person on foot within a mile and from a helicopter within 15 miles.
The department has six more are available for families looking to keep their loved ones safe and for a peace of mind.
"We had a lady who wandered before the program was in place and all the police and staff here at the center searched over an hour before we located her," said LouEllen Blake of the Senior Center. "It was a snowy, cold morning. So, once we were able to get the bracelet on her the daughter told us repeatedly how much better that made her feel."
The bracelets also reduce potential costs for the police, sheriff and state police departments.
They costs $10 per month and can be obtained at the Lewis County Senior Center, or by calling 304-269-5738.
